Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon Registration – What To Expect

For the first time since 1993, we will not conduct registration for the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon through a lottery system. Rather, registrations for the 7,500 spots available in the race will be accepted on a first come, first registered basis starting at 5 p.m. CST on October 1, 2017.

We are expecting the race to reach capacity very quickly, and one question on many people’s minds is, “Will the web site/registration site be able to handle the volume of people trying to register on October 1?” This is a fantastic question!

In order to ensure all systems run smoothly on opening day, we will be implementing a “Controlled Queue” for Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon registration. Here’s how it’ll work:

  1. To access the queue, log onto www.grandmasmarathon.com/register and click the “Register” button under Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon (NOTE: the button will be available at 5 p.m. CST on October 1, 2017).

2. When the queue opens, you will see this:

NOTE: Entering the Queue does not guarantee you a spot in the race, but it will hold your place in line if/when a spot becomes available.

3. Once you click “Enter The Queue”, you will see the below screen. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you do not refresh the page, open multiple tabs, or close the window. You will lose your spot in line if you do any of these actions.

You will be able to enter the registration form based on your position in the queue. Please note that it could take 0 to 20 minutes. Thank you for your patience.

4. When a spot becomes available, the following screen will appear:

5. Click the “Register Now” button, and you will be taken into the registration form:

Once you are through the queue, please slow down and take your time to complete the registration. If you plan to run with another person or other people, you may add up to 3 additional participants in one transaction while spots are available.

6. If you are waiting in the queue, and the race is near capacity – meaning there are enough people who have completed registration and enough people in the registration flow to equal 7,500 registrants – you will see this screen:

If you see this screen, we encourage you to continue to wait. There may be some people who enter the registration form, but decide not to complete the transaction, which will free up a spot. Again, it is VERY IMPORTANT that you do not refresh the page, open multiple tabs, or close the window. You will lose your spot in line if you do any of these actions.

When the race has reached capacity, you will see this screen:

We hope this helps you understand what to expect when you log on to register for the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon on October 1. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Remember! Registration for Grandma’s Marathon, the William A. Irvin 5K and Great Grandma’s Full and Half Challenges also opens at 5 p.m. on October 1. Registrations are taken on a first come, first registered basis for all of these races, however a controlled queue will not be used.
