As a fundraiser for the Young Athletes Foundation (YAF), Grandma's Marathon is offering an opportunity for 100 individuals to be guaranteed an entry into the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon on June 22, 2013 and June 21, 2014.
Kara Goucher’s first time racing in her hometown as a professional turned into a victory party as the former Duluth resident won the women’s race at the 2012 USA Half Marathon Championships.
Goucher, 33, ran the fastest ever women’s time on the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon course – 1 hour, 9 minutes and 46 seconds. Headed for the Summer Olympics in London to race in the Aug. 5 marathon, she captured the national title and $14,000 in prize money – $12,000 for first place and an additional $2,000 bonus for a time under 1:10:00.
Goucher, Abdirahman Join Field for June 16 National Title Event
The road to London will soon take a journey through Duluth for a pair of U.S. Olympians.
Kara Goucher and Abdi Abdirahman officially have registered for the USA Half Marathon Championships to be held June 16 in Duluth as part of Grandma’s Marathon weekend.
The field for the 2012 Fitger’s 5K Run & Walk has reached its capacity and registration is now closed.
Pre-race training seminar to feature Andrew Carlson
(Duluth, Minn.) If you are training for a race during June’s Grandma's Marathon weekend, then you won’t want to miss the annual Gearing Up for Grandma's pre-race seminar on Saturday, March 10. This free event from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Essentia Health’s First Street Building is a valuable training resource for both first-timers and veteran runners.

The Fitger’s 5K field is limited to the first 1,800 registrants, an increase of 100 from the 2011 race which reached its entry limit one month prior to the race.
TODAY IS THE LAST DAY to register for the 2012 Grandma’s Marathon at the $85 entry fee price. So, if you haven’t already entered and want to save before the increase, sign up by the end of today at www.grandmasmarathon.com. Beginning tomorrow the entry fee increases to $90, where it will remain until April 1.

(Duluth, Minn.) The Young Athletes Foundation (YAF) recently awarded $6,070 in grants to five area nonprofit youth organizations. Grants were awarded to: Duluth Salvation Army Rookie Basketball Association ($3,000), Encounter Youth Center ($1,000), Positive Energy Outdoors ($570), Piedmont Youth Hockey Association ($1,100) and Two Harbors Kayak Festival ($400).

Garry Bjorklund 2012 Half Marathon Entries to 250 Finishers
Registration is now available for next month’s Grandma’s Minnesota Mile road races in downtown Duluth. This one-mile event on Sunday, Sept. 11 is open to runners of all skill levels.
Free Youth Races Presented By the Young Athletes Foundation
The Young Athletes Foundation and Grandma's Marathon invite children 14 and under to lace up their shoes and take part in the 2011 Wednesday Night at the Races. This free race series begins Wednesday at Duluth Central High School and continues every Wednesday evening until August 31 (locations vary weekly, see schedule below). Registration is between 5:00 p.m. and 5:50 p.m. each race night, and the races begin at 6 p.m.
Registration for the 36th annual Grandma's Marathon is now open. The first 10,000 to register will be accepted into the Two Harbors-to-Duluth race, currently the 17th largest marathon in the U.S. Visit www.grandmasmarathon.com/site/index.php?page=alias to register for the event’s 36th running, which is set for Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 7:30 a.m.

Due to road construction projects on Interstate 35 from the Twin Cities to Duluth, please be aware that if you are driving to Duluth on I-35 you will potentially experience delays on race weekend.
If you plan to arrive in Duluth on Friday, June 17, we suggest leaving as early in the day as possible to avoid extended delays. We urge you to plan accordingly and give yourself extra travel time. Expect delays and heavy traffic Friday between 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. during the running of the William A. Irvin 5K.

April 27 and 28 Fit-n-Fun Program to feature Suzy Favor Hamilton
Three-time Olympian and seven-time national champion Suzy Favor Hamilton will be the featured speaker at the Essentia Health Fit-n-Fun Middle School Assemblies.
Grandma’s Marathon-Duluth, Inc. and Twin Cities In Motion announced an incentive bonus for any runner winning both of Minnesota’s largest marathons in 2011.
A $10,000 bonus will be awarded to anyone capturing the open division titles at this year’s Grandma’s Marathon and Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon.
