April 27 and 28 Fit-n-Fun Program to feature Suzy Favor Hamilton
(Duluth, Minn.) – Three-time Olympian and seven-time national champion Suzy Favor Hamilton will be the featured speaker at the Essentia Health Fit-n-Fun Middle School Assemblies.
Hamilton, a U.S. track Olympian in 1992, 1996 and 2000, will give presentations to Duluth students Wednesday, April 27, at Woodland Middle School at 1:50 p.m. and Thursday, April 28, at Morgan Park Middle School at 9 a.m.
“We are thrilled to have Suzy joining us for this youth program,” said Scott Keenan, executive director of Grandma’s Marathon. “She is an American running star and she will have a great message for the students.”
Hamilton’s running career started in Stevens Point, Wis., where she won 11 state high school titles and went on to run at the University of Wisconsin. She won four Big Ten Athlete of the Year Awards and was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Decade for the 1990s.

In 2008, Grandma’s Marathon and the Young Athletes Foundation partnered with Duluth Public School Systems and SMDC – now Essentia Health – to create the Fit-n-Fun Middle School Assemblies and Fit-n-Fun Run. These two initiatives are aimed toward motivating children to lead healthier lifestyles.
The 2011 Fit-n-Fun Run is set for Wednesday, May 18 at the Duluth Central High School track.
