2013 Fitger’s 5K Recap
A record 1,926 people registered for the 24th running of the Fitger’s 5K on April 20 and helped to raise about $20,000 for the Young Athletes Foundation.
Despite below average temperatures, the YAF’s largest fundraiser had a great turnout with a total of 1,522 finishers (1,420 runners, 102 walkers) completing the 3.1-mile race.
Joe Moore set a course record and claimed the men’s division title. Moore, 29, of Minneapolis, won the race in 14 minutes and 53 seconds, topping the previous fastest time (Jeremy Polson, 2002, 15:08) by 15 seconds. He also won the 2012 Park Point 5-Miler and placed 12th at the 2012 USA Half Marathon Championships in Duluth last June.
Former University of Minnesota Duluth standout Morgan Place, 23, won the women’s crown with a time of 17:53.
Both Moore and Place are scheduled to compete in the 2013 USA Half Marathon Championships on June 22 in Duluth.
