Austin-Jarrow

Premier Apparel for a Premier Marathon

It was 31 years ago that Bill Austin and Jarrow Wahman used their love of running and their desire to help the community to begin a running club. They never knew then, that it would shape the way both young and old runners view running or even that their passion could be continued through a business that offers high-quality running gear.

Their story begins on a warm, summer day at 8:00 p.m. on July 3, 1981 at the Pizza Hut on London Road. It was at this location that Austin and Wahman, along with Mark Sutton, created the Northern Minnesota Track Club (NMTC). It was created as a club based on camaraderie and to promote the importance and joy of running. Since then, Austin and Wahman have expanded their love for running and involvement in the community by becoming the co-founders of Austin-Jarrow.

Austin-Jarrow has become the premier running apparel store in Duluth, providing customers with running and walking shoes, running clothes and accessories. In addition to their great merchandise, the knowledgeable staff is fully equipped to answer questions and help consumers make the right purchase decisions.

Austin-Jarrow is a store for all runners from recreational to elite, and their wealth of knowledge about shoes and the sport of running contributes to their success and customer loyalty. The fact that they continue to stay involved in the running community and sponsor local events throughout the year is also helpful in maintaining their strong, dedicated reputation.

A great example of Austin-Jarrow’s community involvement is their continued support of the NMTC Fall Cross-Country Series. The 2012 Fall Cross Country Series began September 5 and runs until the first Sunday in November. The 2012 series will feature eleven races, from 5K to 10.5K, on various trail systems in Duluth and surrounding areas. The NMTC events run on many of the same trails the club has used since its commencement in 1981.

This marks the 16th year that Austin-Jarrow has been a proud sponsor of Grandma’s Marathon. Being a part of the annual road race is a natural fit for Austin-Jarrow. In conjunction with Grandma’s Marathon, Austin-Jarrow presents a guest speaker lineup to provide a little extra inspiration, motivation and education for race participants.

Austin-Jarrow is located at 917 West Central Entrance in Duluth. Store hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
