Upper Lakes Foods Provides Replenishment at the Finish Line

Thousands of Grandma's Marathon and Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon finishers have Upper Lakes Foods to thank for providing them with replenishing food at the finish line. From bananas to yogurt and much more in between, the finish area is stocked with food to provide post-race refreshments for each runner.

For the past 14 years, Upper Lakes Foods, the nation’s 30th largest full-line, full service distributor and the largest full-line distributor in Minnesota, has been a proud sponsor of Grandma's Marathon. Each year, more than 50 employees and their families volunteer their time in the finish line area handing out assorted fruit, cookies and orange juice to racers.

“We all enjoy the atmosphere and camaraderie at the finish. Many of our volunteers have been on board since we began our association with the marathon. The mood is so infectious that it has inspired several of our people to participate,” says Scott Soderberg, a spokesperson for Upper Lakes Foods.

The family owned business that started in 1967 now has over 375 employees and distributes over 14,000 line items to over 4,300 customers. Upper Lake Foods has been committed to delivering high quality products on time and at a fair price for over 40 years and they make it their primary goal to help their customers be successful. In addition to helping with events like Grandma's Marathon, Upper Lakes Foods serves a wide range of independent and chain restaurants, colleges, schools and health care facilities.

“Upper Lakes Foods provides a great service to our runners each year and we are honored to have them on our sponsorship team,” explains Scott Keenan, executive director of Grandma's Marathon. “Their efforts in the post-race replenishment area play an important role with helping our runners recover as quickly as possible.”
