Runners stopping at aid stations along the Grandma’s Marathon and Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon course on June 16 will again have plenty of Powerade available to quench their thirst.
Powerade with ION4 became the exclusive racecourse performance drink in 2010 and will continue to be available at all aid stations this year.
One of the important features of Powerade with ION4 is that it replenishes electrolytes — calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium — which are lost during physical activity such as running. Refueling the body with electrolytes helps decrease the chance that runners will suffer from dehydration during or after their race.
“Adding Powerade was an important element for us and feedback from our runners has been overwhelmingly positive,” said Jon Carlson, race director for Grandma’s Marathon. “Powerade is a proven, popular product and we are looking forward to having it available on our course again in 2012.”
Powerade with ION4 is produced in many different flavors. The blue variety, named Mountain Berry Blast, will be the flavor distributed on race day.
