Olympic Qualifiers 

At the 2019 Grandma’s Marathon, there were 64 marathoners and nine Garry Bjorklund Half marathoners that qualified for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – according to the USATF Qualifying Standards.

In 2018 there were 32 marathoners that qualified.

Top Boston Marathon Qualifier 

Our fast, flat course makes Grandma’s Marathon a top Boston Marathon qualifier with many PRs set each year!

In 2019, over 17% of Grandma’s Marathon finishers qualified for the Boston Marathon.


Top 20 Marathons of the Decade

Grandma’s Marathon was named by BibRave to The BibRave 100 : A Definitive List of the Best Races in America and identified as one of the top 20 best marathons of the decade.

Grandma’s Marathon was also named by BibRave voters as one of the nation’s top 5 “Race-Cations,” which is described as a premier race combined with weekend experiences to make potential extra travel and logistics worth the time.

The 2020 Best Races in America awards are determined through runner nominations, running industry surveys, and runner votes.

Best Half Marathon in Minnesota

The Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon was the top half marathon in Minnesota. The RaceRaves list of the best half marathons in the U.S. is selected based on votes from thousands of runners across the country, along with online reviews and ratings.

Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group Qualifiers

Grandma’s Marathon qualified as a race in the Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group Qualifier series. The AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Rankings comprise a one-year qualifying period during which athletes in nine separate age groups can compete in over 50 marathons across the world to earn ranking points. At the end of the qualifying period, the top ranked runners in each age group will be invited to the AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Championships.

Grandma’s Marathon was recognized by Explore Minnesota Tourism for their contributions to the state’s $15 billion travel industry.

Explore MN highlighted Minnesota-based, world-class events that bring strong coalitions together, produce substantial media exposure and generate significant travel dollars to and for the State of Minnesota.
