IMPORTANT: Due to the public health concerns associated with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the finish line area for this year’s Grandma’s Marathon and Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon will look different than in previous years.
The finish line area will be modified for the 2021 Grandma’s Marathon weekend to comply with current and existing Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) guidelines.
All participants will be required to put their mask or face covering on immediately after crossing the finish line. Refusal to do so may result in a participant being disqualified.
Participants are encouraged to carry their mask or face covering with them during the race. A limited number of masks will be available at the finish line for participants who have lost theirs during the race.
IMPORTANT: Participants who would like to use the gear bag service must drop their bag at the finish line area in advance of boarding a bus or train to the start line. No gear bags or backpacks will be allowed to be brought to the start line, and Grandma’s Marathon will not transport any bag from the start to finish area this year.
Finisher medals, space blankets, and runner recovery food and beverages will be distributed in a reduced touchpoint format.
More specific details on what will be available to participants at the finish line area will be communicated prior to race weekend.
There will be no post-race massgae therapy or changing tents. Toilets will be provided in select areas so as not to disrupt the flow of participants through the secure area.
NOTE: Finisher shirts will be distributed to participants prior to the race at packet pickup. This will be a one-year-only change to reduce the number of touchpoints in the finish area.
The Grandma’s Marathon Information Center will be located next to the Medical Tent in the runner recovery area at the finish line. All recovered lost and found articles will be brought here to be claimed.
If you get separated from your group on race day, we will have a designated meeting area set up in the grassy area near the Lake Superior Marine Museum.
There will be signs with the following labels to help you locate the other members of your group: AB, CD, EF, GH, IJ, KL, MN, OP, QRS, TUV, and WXYZ.
If you are participating in the race and planning to meet someone at the finish area, please make arrangements ahead of time about where to meet with your family or friends. NOTE: The finish line announcers will not be available to page people or make personal announcements.
IMPORTANT: Though gatherings to watch this year’s event is discouraged, family or friends of participants will be allowed and encouraged to pick them up following their race.
