You’ve signed up to Volunteer in 2023, now what?

Thank You for Registering to Volunteer for Grandma’s Marathon 2023! We often say that we couldn’t do it without out volunteers but that is an understatement. Grandma’s Marathon is far too big for us to handle on our own. We rely on volunteers to make each runner feel like they are the most important. Our race has been known for its organization and hospitality for decades in the running industry and that is all thanks to our volunteers.

Now that you have signed up to volunteer, what happens next?

  1. Register to Volunteer
Check! You’ve already signed up for Grandma’s Marathon 2023.
  1. Recruit your friends, family, coworkers, teammates to join in the fun
We all know volunteering is even more fun with a friend. Bring along anyone and everyone with you. It takes over 4,000 volunteers to put on Grandma’s Marathon and everyone’s role is important. You can direct them to sign up online here. If you are signing up with a group of 10 or more reach out to Alivia via email at [email protected] and she can create a group sign up.
  1. Pick Up your volunteer shirt in Late May/Early June
When your volunteer swag is ready for pick up in late May or early June, you’ll receive an email. If you are from out of town or are unable to pick up your t-shirt by event day, you’ll just need to email our Program Director Alivia at [email protected] and she will be able to make arrangements for you to get your swag on the day of your volunteer shift.
  1. Get Volunteer email with all instructions first week of June
You already know the basics from signing up to volunteer- what time your shift is, a general location, etc. To check that info again you’ll need to login to your volunteer profile here.
The volunteer email will have all the details you’ll need to know for race day—where to park, how to get around with any road closures that the race might cause, the exact location to meet your volunteer captain and their contact information, what to bring with you, and more. You’ll also receive a link to our 2023 Grandma’s Marathon Weekend Guide that has all the information the runners receive. Look through the guide to help answer any questions runner might have for you on race day.
  1. Show up on Race Day
Remember to wear your volunteer shirt and bring anything with you you’ll need for your shift. Some things you might want to bring include
  • Snacks
  • Water Bottle
  • Comfortable Shoes- Most volunteer jobs include standing and walking for most of your shift
  • Jacket- Our event is rain or shine and we all know that June weather can be unpredictable by the lake.
  1. Share the photos you take throughout the day
Share any pictures you take on social media with the hashtag #GMAS23 or tag Grandma’s Marathon for a chance to be featured on social media.
  1. Celebrate with us at the Volunteer Appreciation Party
All volunteers are invited to our Volunteer Appreciation Party on Thursday June 22nd at the Duluth Huskies Game. Join us to celebrate the great event you put on!
