Favorite Grandma’s Marathon memory: I have so many memories, which is exactly why I love being a Grambassador and sharing all things Grandma’s. My newest favorite has to be running the William A. Irvin 5K with my 8-year-old last year. He was so proud of himself. At one point he said, “Mom, look at me, I am the baby of the family and here I am with you.” That moment is one I’ll never forget.
A quote that guides, inspires, or embodies your training, racing, or life: My favorite quote is “I’m where I belong sir” from the Top Gun Maverick movie. For me, that means the back of the pack. It’s where I find community, grit, and joy in running. My focus is on showing up, staying steady, and reminding others that every runner, every pace, and every finish line matters.
Songs that must be on your running playlist: “This Is Me” and “From Now On” from The Greatest Showman always give me a boost, and Sia’s Unstoppable is a must-have. I mix in Calvin Harris’ Feel So Close, plenty of Pitbull, and some Eminem. Add in country, 80’s rock, and current hits — my playlist is as all-over-the-map
Reasons you wouldn’t run outside: I honestly don’t have a reason NOT to run outside, unless there’s lightning. I run through just about everything else. Cold winter days? Bundle up and go. Piles of snow? I’ve got pictures of me out there covered head to toe after a storm. Summer heat doesn’t bother me either. In fact, my favorite runs are around 2:00 in the afternoon when it’s the hottest part of the day. I’ve got plenty of photos from runs in 80–90 degree weather. I wouldn’t suggest it for long training runs, but I love a hot afternoon short run — it’s just part of the fun of running outside year-round.
Advice to other runners: Grandma’s is an event for every runner. The spectators and community will cheer you on like you’re in first place. My best advice, whether it’s at Grandma’s or any other race, is to run your own race. Don’t compare yourself to others. Your journey, your pace, and your finish line are what matter

Favorite Grandma’s Marathon Memory: Running with the 5:30 pace group in 2025. It was my first road marathon and I was incredibly nervous. I made so many friends and heard so many people’s incredible stories while running. I brought my headphones, but I never put them on because I was having the absolute best time chatting, listening to the crowd, and just soaking it all in.
Quote that guides, inspires, or embodies your training, racing, or life: “I make my journey.”
Running superstition: It’s bad luck to wear a race shirt while running the race! Luckily, Grandma’s doesn’t give you the shirt until you finish!
Three words to describe your training, racing or life:Joyful, adventurous, dynamic
Advice to other runners: Embrace the community! Running is a solo sport, and training for a race can require hours of time that’s just you and the road. But you’re not in this alone! Join a run club, reach out to friends for support during your long runs, run with a pace group on race day, and celebrate with your fellow runners and supporters when you cross the finish line. Sharing our hard miles and pain makes them more bearable and sharing our joy makes it even brighter. We’re in this together.

Favorite Grandma’s Marathon Memory: Every Grandma’s Marathon weekend brings special memories. One of my favorite things is when friends or family members run a Grandma’s race for the first time.

Running superstition: I never wear a race shirt until after I’ve finished
2026 running goal: Build strength, have fun
Three words to describe your training, racing, or life: Community, Commitment, Joy

Favorite Grandma’s Marathon Memory:
I have far too many Grandma’s Marathon memories to choose just one! My first ever 5K, half marathon, and full marathon were all at Grandma’s. Along with joining several family members in 2016 when we revived our family running club that started with our dads, uncles, and cousins in the 80s, running my husband’s first half marathon with him in 2018, getting to experience the first race back after COVID in 2021. Most recently, I had the great honor of running 26.2 miles with my dad and crossing the finish line with him for his 25th Grandma’s Marathon in 2025. All of these are memories that I will never forget and I look forward to adding to this list every year.
Song that must be on your running playlist: The Rocky theme song… every version from every movie. I will sometimes hear that song 6 times during my long runs haha!
Running Superstition: I always say the same little prayer as I cross the starting line and finish line. I also run all of my races on the far left side of the course- a superstition that was started at Grandma’s so I could be closest to Lake Superior.
Advice to other runners: Just keep putting one foot in front of the other, you’ll get there eventually. AND if it takes you longer than you wanted it to, just remember you are still putting in the same amount of miles as the person who came in first!
2026 Running Goals: Redemption! I had huge goals for 2025, which unfortunately were not met on race day. I am excited to continue the fight and hopefully hit my goals in 2026! Throughout my training process, I hope to post a new PR at every distance.

Favorite Grandma’s Marathon Memory: This will be my fourth Grandma’s Marathon, and I’ve loved every single one! My ultimate favorite memory was at mile 24 in 2024, passing the Mill City Running cheer zone. I heard my name chanted by so many teammates and friends, and there was an endless line of high-fives along the sidelines, despite the rainy weather. I cried tears of joy—feeling that support warmed my heart and carried me all the way to the finish!
Quote that guides, inspires, or embodies your training, racing, or life: “Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.”
I love this quote because it perfectly captures what marathon training is all about. Every early morning run, every icy Minnesota mile, every little sacrifice adds up to that incredible moment on race day when all the work finally comes together. Crossing the finish line feels even sweeter knowing every step leading up to it mattered.
Song that must be on your running playlist: In the Yuma- Chris Lake
This song is always on my playlist when the miles get tough. It reminds me that I feel strong, that fatigue won’t hold me back, and that every step of training has led to this moment. Keep going—race day is a celebration, and I’m here to enjoy all the hard work I’ve put in!
Favorite pre-race meal: Ezekiel bread, CRUNCHY peanut butter, Raspberry jam and a little coffee. Simple, easy, and reliable.
Favorite post-race beverage: A celebratory beer, please—paired with a side of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos!
2026 running goal: I want to stay strong and healthy, but ultimately, I’m excited to chase another personal best at Grandma’s 50th anniversary.

Favorite Grandma’s Marathon Memory: Grandma’s 2012! My first marathon with my mom, right after high school. Longest training run? 8 miles. Fueling plan? Nonexistent. What got me through? Pure hope, excitement, vibes from everyone cheering, and my mom’s encouragement. This race was a catalyst into making me the runner I am today and a reminder that I can do anything I set my mind to!
Quote that guides, inspires, or embodies your training, racing, or life:
“We GET 2 do this.” It inspired the name of my podcast with my fiance, Jacob Oak, and is a reminder I carry with me in running and in life—that movement is a privilege, and even on the hard days, I choose to show up with gratitude.
Three words to describe your training, racing, or life: Grateful. Resilient. Consistent.
Favorite post-race beverage:
An iced caramel or honey lavender latte with light ice!
Song that must be on your running playlist: Year 3000 by the Jonas Brothers—this song holds so many great memories and is the one we blasted and danced to during the final lap of my 200-miler. Something I will never forget!

Favorite Grandma’s Marathon Memory: My first GM’s when it was pouring rain and I was running beside Lake superior for the first time. I will never forget it.
2026 Running Goal: Punching my ticket to Boston Marathon for the 4th year in a row. It’s about consistency, dedication, and showing up — year after year.
Three words to describe your training, racing, or life: Structured. Deliberate. Disciplined. That’s how I train, race, and live.
Advice for other runners: Trust your training. The work you’ve done is enough. Race day is just the celebration of that effort.
Quote that guides, inspires, or embodies your training, racing, or life: “Trust the process. You are ready.” That quote isn’t just a mantra — it’s the mindset that’s carried me through every mile, every training block, every race. Whether it’s a tough tempo run or a major race day, I come back to that truth. Trust the process. You are ready.

Favorite Grandma’s Marathon Memory: I have so many! But my most recent favorite was pacing one of my teammates to her first sub 2 half marathon and her PR at Garry Bjorklund Half in 2024! I ran into her on the busses and was really excited because we ran similar paces. Every mile we ran together, I looked forward to the fist bump until I could tell she was gaining speed at mile 8, and I was slowing down because I had run the 5k the day before. So I coached her through every obstacle she would face, deceptive hills that are worse than Lemon Drop to be wary of, and she took off. She ran well below 2 hours at 1:56 and ran her PR! As for me, I ran 2 hours on the nose that day, and to this day, I still don’t know how it happened!
Quote that guides, inspires, or embodies your training, racing, or life: This past year since being diagnosed with inappropriate sinus tachycardia, my mantra has had to be to “take things one day at a time”. Because there was a stretch of time that running wasn’t a guarantee for me. There were days that I couldn’t walk by myself without assistance from my walking mobility aid, because my heart rate would get really high walking around that I would pass out and have multiple seizures a day. The days I couldn’t run or do any exercise added up, and I lost a lot of strength, which also took a toll on my mental health. There was a genuine point where I did not think I was going to survive until I started to slow down, radically accept that my body was at a new square one, and to take things one day at a time. Now, I don’t take any run for granted, I think about that version of me often and how proud she would be if she could see me today, and I’m thankful that I still get to run races!
Song that must be on your running playlist: I am a huge fan of rock music that has pump up lyrics, so I listen to Heart vs. Mind by I Prevail, Hit Like a Girl by Meet Me @ The Altar, Power by The Score, and Can’t Stop Me Now by Oh the Larceny. I also listen to a LOT of wrestler entrance themes as pump up songs! My top songs are: Battle Cry (Kenny Omega), Elevated (Will Ospreay), and Prototheme (Kyle Fletcher)
2026 running goal: Now that I know running is safe for me, and I’m healthy, 2026 is going to be dedicated to working towards becoming the strongest version of myself! I want to show up to the start ready to shatter my post IST diagnosis PR, and I want to see how close I can get to my pre IST PRs!

Favorite Grandma’s Marathon Memory: Last year was wild. We had a wonderful lodge on the lake that we all stayed in, cooking and hanging out. It was great. The morning of the race, we got in the car and a tree had fallen across the road. We were sure we’d miss it but my friends–both South African–decided they could drive around the down tree and somehow did. I was wearing the bib of my friend Steve, who I was going to guide in the race (he’s visually impaired) before he wound up needing a surgery. It was an honor to wear it for him. Then at the race. I ran into another friend who I knew was going to be at the race and we did almost twenty-three miles together. Afterward, my family joined me in the VIP tent. In all, my memories from last year are numerous and so great that I knew I needed to come back for the 50th.
Reason you absolutely won’t run outside: It would take nuclear war. Or strong wind. I hate wind.
Three words to describe your training, racing, or life: Need not want.
Advice to other runners: Running is the only things humans are physically good at. We’re terrible swimmers, horrible climbers, can’t fly at all. But we are the greatest long-distance running creature ever to evolve. This is what we evolved to do, and it may look different when some of us do it, using blades or wheels or guides, but we can all do it. So do it.

Favorite Grandma’s Marathon Memory: I just moved to Duluth in May of 2024 and immediately engrossed myself in running and community. All of that came together for my 2025 Grandma’s Marathon. I kept seeing friends and community members along the entire course, both as supporters and fellow runners. Being known in your space truly fills the heart and I’m so happy it happened at Grandma’s. And maybe the 19 minute PR helped a little!
Favorite Pre-Race Meal: Peanut butter, banana, and chia seeds all wrapped up in a flour tortilla. I call it my breakfast burrito!
Reason you absolutely won’t run outside: Heavy smoke is really the only thing that can deter me, otherwise nothing will stop me if I want to get a run in. You will find me running at night in the dead of winter in -20 degree temps.
Advice to Other Runners: Forward is a Pace.
2026 Running Goal: Continue creating and growing inclusive and welcoming spaces for all types of runners and complete my first Ultra!

Favorite Grandma’s Marathon Memory: • When I think of Grandma’s Marathon, my fondest memories aren’t really about the race itself—they’re about the people and the feeling of community that surrounds it. Grandma’s has given me so much more than miles on the course; it’s given me friendships and traditions I cherish year after year. I think about my Hoops Running Club teammates who bring endless laughs and encouragement, the familiar “Grandma’s regulars” I catch up with once a year like it’s a family reunion, and the welcoming Grandma’s staff and Grambassadors who make every runner feel like they belong. And maybe best of all, my kiddo, Dot has joined in on the tradition too, lacing up for the 5K each year and joining in all the weekend festivities—it’s become our shared celebration of running, joy, and this amazing community.
Quote that guides, inspires, or embodies your training, racing, or life: “Nothing lasts forever.” Both the joy and the struggle are temporary. The good moments are gifts—pause, savor them, and let yourself be fully present. And when challenges come, in training, in racing, or in life, remember that they, too, will pass.
Song that must be on your running playlist: My musical inspirations are always changing, but right now it’s “Passenger” by Noah Kahan.
2026 running goal: Soak in the 50th Anniversary and run my first Great Grandma’s double (from the finish to the start and back)! PR the 100 mile distance.
Advice to other runners: Dare to do something that feels impossible. Set goals that seem out of reach, where the risk of falling short is real. It’s in those moments—when the outcome isn’t guaranteed—that true growth happens. These challenges not only reveal your limits, they expand them, reshaping you again and again into a more resilient, peaceful, and grateful person.

Favorite Grandma’s Marathon Memory: In 2024, I briefly stepped off the road at mile 1, when I jumped back in I ended up right next to a friend I hadn’t seen in several years! And this was his first marathon! We ended up running together until mile 18 and it was the easiest and most fun miles either of us had maybe ever run; the miles had FLOWN by! He had been anxious about running his first marathon and was so grateful to have someone to run with for most of the race. It was such a blessing and I’m so grateful I got to guide him and help him cross his first marathon finish line! It’s not just my favorite Grandma’s memory, it’s easily one of my all time favorite race memories!
Quote that guides, inspires, or embodies your training, racing, or life: But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
Song that must be on your running playlist: I go through phases. Currently, anything by Forrest Frank, Tauren Wells or Phil Wickham!
Reason you absolutely won’t run outside: lightning anywhere close!
Favorite pre-race meal: Olive Garden 😋
Favorite post-race beverage: McDonald’s Diet Coke! McDonald’s Pop is the best and I will die on this hill.
2026 running goal: A marathon PR! In January of 2026 I will celebrate 4 years of sobriety! My running suffered greatly during my struggles with drinking (naturally). But from 2024-2025 I cut off nearly 45 minutes from my marathon time! Another 12ish minutes and I’ll PR (current PR was set in 2016!)

Favorite Grandma’s Marathon Memory: This is my 10th year participating in Grandma’s weekend and I have so many favorites… but one that comes to mind when reflecting back this year was when I was volunteering as a kid at waterstop before lemon drop hill. Watching the elite runners race by me… they were so fast and fluid in their strides, it looked like they were flying. It looked like magic. And from those moments on, GM has always been magical for me.
Quote that guides, inspires, or embodies your training, racing, or life: “Run. Run in the morning. Run in the dark. Run every day. Run twice a day. Run to find yourself. Run to forget yourself. Run to recreate yourself. Run when you’re happy. Run when you’re sad. Run when rested. Run when exhausted. Run from problems. Run towards opportunities. Run to be at peace. Run to be at war. Run for any reason you can possibly find to run. Life’s too short to walk when you can run.”
“I dare you to train for a marathon and not have it change your life”. And it has. Running has given me my most favorite version of myself.
2026 running goal: 3 S’s: Strength training. Speed work. Sleep. (and of course, say hi to all the dogs while running).
Three words to describe your training, racing, or life: Relentless. Bliss. Dogs.
Advice to other runners: Remind yourself why you started. Remind yourself why you love it.

Favorite Grandma’s Marathon Memory: My first ever Grandma’s event in 2015, the Garry Bjorklund half, when it rained the entire time. I got to see my family cheer me on along the course, even in the rain, and I ended up with a half-marathon PR.

Favorite Grandma’s Marathon Memory: Running the Garry Bjorklund Half in 2025, I slipped in mud pre race and went to the water to rinse off and basically fell in the lake. i was ready to be finished before I even started and ended up running a PR
Quote that guides, inspires, or embodies your training, racing, or life: “Discipline will take you where motivation can’t.”
Reason you absolutely won’t run outside: If there’s a hurricane — otherwise, I’ll take on heat, cold, or rain.
Favorite pre-race meal: Night before – Spaghetti and marinara with grilled chicken
Morning of- Plain bagel with peanut butter, banana, and a little coffee.
2026 running goal: Breaking 2:30 in the marathon and continuing to coach athletes to their own breakthroughs.
Advice to other runners: Don’t compare your chapter 1 to someone else’s chapter 20 — focus on steady progress, and celebrate every win along the way.

Favorite Grandma’s Marathon Memory: In 2024, Mile in My Shoes put together a charity race team. It was our first time at Grandma’s Marathon. We were amazed when more than fifty people signed up as FundRacers. I wore my blue Mile in My Shoes singlet during the race. I was amazed by the number of people who shouted, “Mile in My Shoes, Woo!” When I reached the Mile in My Shoes cheer zone, it was so encouraging. Even though they were standing in the rain, there they were, cheering their lungs out. It was deafening. I would encourage anyone to consider raising funds for charity, especially Mile in My Shoes.
Quote that guides, inspires, or embodies your training, racing, or life: “Life is short. Play big. Love hard.”
Reason you won’t run outside: I used to run with a group whose motto was “Good to go till ten below.” Living in Minnesota, I’ve had to break that and run in colder weather. As my Minnesota friends say, “There is no such thing as too cold – just underdressed.” Today, the only thing that stops me is if the trails are too icy or if there is lightning.
Favorite pre-race meal: My go-to meal is organic blueberries, vanilla Greek yogurt, and granola.
Favorite post-race beverage: I like a protein shake with wild blueberries, a banana, and oat milk.
2026 running goal: Cancer surgery has changed my relationship with running. 2026 will be my year for joyful running. I want to be present with the privilege of each mile. What better way to celebrate running than to run the 50th Grandma’s Marathon?

Favorite Grandma’s Marathon Memory: I ran my first race this past year. I had planned to run the marathon, but after some unexpected injuries, I decided it was more responsible to run the Half. But that resulted in a much more experience. My friends that I had traveled with were pressured to achieve specific times. I, instead, was able to run along the water, pause for as many high fives as possible, and really enjoy Duluth. I’m looking forward to training over the next year to achieve my own new goals in the coming year.
Favorite pre-race meal – I know pasta is pretty standard, but I tend to migrate to the Tour of Italy at Olive Garden. When you’re traveling for races, it’s nice to know you’ll get the same thing every time. No surprises on race day – or at least no surprises related to the meal you ate the night before.
2026 running goal – I just started my 2026 race schedule, and I already have 30 races on the calendar. My big goal is to learn which races I’m racing – and which races I’m just running to finish. Tied to that is to overcome injury and work on my strength training while becoming more consistent. Third, I want to continue my streak with my local run series as I pursue 100 races in a row. Finally, the stretch goal is to qualify for Chicago – hopefully at Grandma’s!
Advice to other runners – The first step/block/mile is the hardest. Getting out the door for runs is the hardest part. But once you do – and can get past that mental barrier – it gets so much easier. Also, remove as many barriers as you can. If you’re going to go run in the morning, sleep in your running shorts so it’s one less thing to put on. And big one: if you’re going to go run after work, NEVER sit on the couch. It will suck you and never let you go.

Favorite Grandma’s Marathon Memory: 2025 was the first year I went up to Duluth and didn’t come away with a PR. For five years straight I had snagged a PR at one of the distances, but last June it didn’t quite happen. Did it suck not to PR after all that training? Yeah. Am I going to stop chasing PRs? No. But here’s the funny part—when I reflect on my favorite Grandma’s weekend, my mind goes straight to last year. Why is that? Because Grandma’s Race Weekend is about so much more than one specific personal record. For the first time, my fiancée Kailee and I went up early and actually got to take part in so many of the events around Duluth. We tried new food spots, joined the community happenings, got interviewed for the promo video for Grandma’s 50th year, and saw SO MANY WONDERFUL athletes out there working to better themselves in some way. It’s such a privilege to be a part of the running community during Grandma’s Weekend every year and I highly recommend doing as many of the events outside the race both that weekend and leading up to it. I constantly am reminding myself to do the same and when I do, I end up having SO MUCH MORE FUN.
And then when it is race time…. lock-in :-). I can’t WAIT to get back up there next June and soak it up again! See you all soon.
Quote that guides, inspires, or embodies your training, racing, or life: “We Get To Do This”

Favorite Grandma’s Marathon Memory: My favorite Grandma’s Marathon memory is from my second marathon—Grandma’s Marathon 2022. My first marathon was Grandma’s back in 2019, where I finished in just under 5 hours. Fast forward three years, and as I ran along the shores of Lake Superior for the second time, everything felt different. As I wound around the DECC and spotted the finish line, I realized I was about to break 4 hours. Crossing that line was already unforgettable—but at that very moment, my dad called via FaceTime to congratulate me. Through happy tears, I shared with him that not only had I finished strong (my A goal) and broken 4:00:00 (my B goal), but I had also achieved my C goal: earning a Boston Qualifier!
Before running Grandma’s in 2022, I didn’t even know what “BQ” meant. Like so many of the nearly 10,000 runners who take part in this incredible race each year, I was still learning the ropes. Since then, I’ve run 14 marathons (with 3 more planned before Grandma’s 2026!), and 11 of them have been Boston Qualifiers. Grandma’s will always hold a special place in my heart—it’s where I started, where I grew, and where I discovered what was possible.
Quote that guides, inspires, or embodies your training, racing, or life: “She Believed She Could, So She Did.” This quote has guided me through both running and life. My parents inspired me to be strong and to believe that anything is possible, especially as a female. At first, I wore this phrase on arm sleeves during cooler races as a reminder of that strength. After many summers with warm races, I decided to make it permanent—tattooed the quote on my left forearm. Now, with every arm swing during a training run or race, I’m reminded that when I believe, anything is possible. And you can too!
Reason you absolutely won’t run outside: Nothing! I absolutely love running outside year round! Living in the Midwest—and through Minnesota winters—I train in it all: heat, humidity, snow, rain, and wind. Race day can bring any weather, so I believe it’s best to be prepared for everything.
Favorite pre-race meal: Follow and chat with me about fueling and low fiber foods! Yep, if you’ve had GI issues when running I’m your person. When starting to run I quickly learned runners talk about ANYTHING…even their mid run dash to the woods and coming out with one less sock! My favorite pre race breakfast is either pancakes or French toast with syrup and banana.
Three words to describe your training, racing, or life: Earned, never given! And, live and run joyfully!

Favorite Grandma’s Marathon Memory: When I ran the Gary Bjorkland Half Marathon in 2025. It was my first time running the race with cancer and my family and friends had made 3 different cheer stations! It was so motivating to run through the Lungevity station when I entered Lakeside. Then I got to see my whole family and hug my kids right before Lemon Drop Hill. At the finish line my brother and sister-in-law were in the bleachers with awesome signs for me! The best part was my husband Tom biked to each station, so I got to see him every time!

Favorite pre-race meal: Peanut butter bagel
2026 running goal: To run the full Grandmas Marathon with my husband!

Favorite Grandma’s Marathon Memory: Running my first marathon postpartum alongside my sister-in-law, who was completing her first 26.2. We crossed the finish line and I was completely exhausted, so proud of her, and full of emotion for what I had accomplished with a 1 and 2 year old. That race reminded me that I can do hard things, even in the middle of motherhood and messy seasons.

Advice to Other Runners:
You don’t have to wait for life to calm down before chasing a big goal. Whether you’re running between nap times or late-night deadlines, every mile matters. Keep showing up, give yourself grace, and trust the process, you’re stronger than you think.

Favorite Grandma’s Marathon Memory: I ran Grandma’s Marathon for the first time in 2022, having tackled my first two marathons in 2020 and 2021. I’d heard of Grandma’s before, but as someone still pretty new to long-distance running, I had no idea it was such a big deal. Thinking I had plenty of time, I put off booking a hotel until three weeks before the race—rookie mistake! By then, everything was booked solid. Desperate, I turned to Airbnb and found…a tent. Yes, a literal tent in some generous stranger’s backyard. It wasn’t the Four Seasons, but hey, it had a zipper, and that’s all I needed, right? Fast forward to the night before the race—it was not exactly balmy, and I spent most of it tossing, turning, and regretting every life decision that led me to this moment. But, despite barely sleeping, I got up, laced up my shoes, and ran that marathon. It was an incredible experience and, let me tell you, a very valuable lesson learned: book early, or you’ll be “glamping” the night before 26.2 miles!
And here’s the update: it’s still my favorite Grandma’s memory…but apparently, I didn’t quite learn my lesson. In 2025, I found myself in a similar situation. This time it wasn’t a tent, but a tiny cabin smack in the middle of a huge open field. Sounds quaint, right? Well—here’s the kicker: no electricity. And the even bigger kicker? The night before the race, it poured like crazy. Great for sleeping, sure, but pitch-black conditions meant I stubbed my toes more times than I’d like to admit. And since the cabin had no restroom, I had the joy of trekking to a porta-potty in the middle of the night…through the rain…with thunder and lightning providing the soundtrack. So yes, lesson reinforced: don’t be like me—book early! Haha.
Quote that guides, inspires, or embodies your training, racing, or life: “Pa’lante, Siempre!” — Spanish for “Forward, Always!” This phrase embodies how I approach both running and life. Whether as a father, professional, volunteer, or friend, it reminds me that challenges are temporary, but resilience endures. Every step and every mile—metaphorically in life and literally on the course—is about moving forward with heart, no matter what.
Advice to other runners: Trust your training—your body knows more than your mind gives it credit for.
Favorite post-race beverage: An ice-cold beer—but honestly, the “pre–post-race” warm-ish sip in the last couple of miles is my favorite, thanks to the amazing spectators along the course. Grabbing a cup and sharing a playful cheers always gives me the extra oomph to finish strong!

Favorite Grandma’s Memory: All of these are interconnected, as the Grandma’s Weekend Experience does not exist in a vacuum! My first Grandma’s Marathon experience was in 2008, when I was fortunate to run this gorgeous race with my Dad as my 3rd marathon. We crossed the finish line together in 5:34:19. We went on to run another handful of marathons together, but unfortunately my Dad had health issues creep up 5 years ago and walking is tough, let alone running.
In June of 2023, I was part of your injured GRAMbassador Cheer Squad at Mile 26 due to a stress fracture in my heel! While I didn’t get to run, I did get to participate in race weekend, cheer on all the runners as they headed into the final stretch, and had a blast!
In June of 2024, I ran Grandma’s as my 17th marathon and my comeback race following a 1 year hiatus due to said stress fracture. I was beyond thrilled to run a 4:39:12 (a post-3 kids PR)! Seeing my friends cheering their hearts out for me at Mile 26- almost exactly where I was cheering for them a year prior while in a boot- was the best! The entire weekend was unforgettable, from the expo and travel with a friend from California, to the girls’ weekend, post-race Vitta Pizza and bar hopping, it was unforgettable!
Grandma’s 2025 was a challenge thanks to life, the humidity and the weather, but THE best girls’ weekend ever! Seeing my friends along the course- especially from mile 24 to the end- were the boost I needed to get through it!

Reason you absolutely won’t run outside: COLD rain. I’m a summer-loving runner- bring on the sunshine, heat and humidity! Warm rain in Summer is fine but I hate being cold (meaning 2024 Grandma’s was a challenge).
2026 running goal: For 2026, all I ask (though it seems to be a lofty request) is to get through the season UNINJURED!
Three words to describe your training, racing, or life: CHAOTIC YET FLEXIBLE
Advice to other runners: Be where your feet are. Focus on where YOU are, not where someone else is- that applies to both training and racing. Where you are NOW won’t be where you always are. You got this!

Favorite Grandma’s Marathon Memory: My favorite Grandma’s Marathon memory isn’t tied to one race or finish line. It has been all about the people I get to share the weekend with. As a proud Duluthian, I’m lucky to have travel and lodging already figured out for 2026, which means I can focus on hosting. For the past several years, we’ve crammed our little home with friends and family from near and far, most of whom are running at least one of the events. Beyond the electric race day atmosphere, what I cherish most is our tradition of gathering at the Spaghetti Dinner to swap stories from past years, sharing laughs, and building the excitement for the big day ahead.
Song that must be on your running playlist: Trampled by Turtles- Wild Animals. All TBT
Reason you absolutely won’t run outside: Unfortunately, the only thing that kept me from running outside in the last year was the air quality. Otherwise, there is very little that can keep me from running outside.
2026 running goal: As a person who has just started running a year ago, my 2026 running goals are big ones! I’ll be running Grandma’s 50th Marathon as my first marathon ever! On top of that, I’ve got a 100k trail race on the calendar. More than the races themselves, I’m looking forward to continuing to run as my space to recharge, socialize, focus on my mental health, and deepen my connection with the outdoors.
Advice to other runners:I run for my own reasons, and I hope others find and honor theirs, too. In today’s screen-filled world, it’s not always easy to block out outside influences, but running feels most meaningful when it’s done for yourself and no one else.

Favorite Grandma’s Marathon Memory:
My favorite part last year was getting to meet deaf runners and becoming friends with them, meeting Dakotah Popehn, and almost qualifying for the Boston Marathon (just one minute short!). I also loved reconnecting with my Duluthian friends, it’s always the best time of the summer.
Favorite post-race meal: Pho and Vietnamese coffee, nothing hits better after a race.
2026 running goal: To qualify for Boston, but also to make unforgettable memories, because this year will be extra special with the 50th anniversary of Grandma’s.
Advice to other runners: Celebrate the small wins along the way, every mile matters.

Favorite Grandma’s Marathon Memory: My favorite Grandmas Marathon memory is from last year. It was my fourth Grandmas full and the second time running it with my best friend, Hannah! In 2024 we ran 5:00:47, disappointed to just miss the five hour barrier. In 2025, we made a plan to push a little more in the beginning, and hang on for dear life in the second half hoping to break 5. As we ran into Duluth, it was going to be a close one but we were feeling good. In a dramatic turn of events, I started to overheat once we hit the blacktop after lemon drop hill. I had to stop and eat as much as I could and take in a half liter of water. I was so disappointed in myself for not staying on top of it, and because of that I wouldn’t finish the race with Hannah. Luckily, I started to come around and picked it up to find Hannah. I caught her with one mile to go – and together we broke 5 hours running 4:59:58!! I had my Garmin watch going, and after we crossed the finish line Hannah asked if we broke 5 and I shook my head. I saw 5:00:03 and it stung. A few minutes later, I got a text from my husband. “You guys broke 5! Congrats!!” I showed Hannah and we looked up the results, it was true! We were so excited and proud, our hard work had paid off.

Favorite Grandma’s Marathon Memory: There is something extra special about your first Grandma’s, and my favorite memory is simply the overall feeling I had during the race (and even now, talking about it!). My primary race-day goal was to take it all in, rather than being so focused on pace that I only remembered my watch face. I had wanted to run Grandma’s for nearly 30 years after seeing my dad run the 20th anniversary of the race. He has often said “every runner has got to do Grandma’s,” and I agree. I spent so much of my race feeling gratitude: gratitude for being able to arrive at the start line surrounded by folks who each had their own journey to get there, gratitude and awe for what a special experience it was to follow my dad’s route, and gratitude for the unique way the north shore invites us to reflect on our interconnectedness. To hear the waves along the same shoreline, see the light filtering through the same trees, and feel encouraged by the cheers of many of the very same residents who cheered on my dad, just like they have done for decades of Grandma’s runners- oh, what a feeling indeed! That interconnectedness and gratitude made for an unforgettable day.

Favorite Grandma’s Marathon Memory: In 2008 I ran the the Gary Bjorklund Half Marathon for the first time. I was just beginning my journey as a runner and had no idea what I was doing or what I was getting into. I had run my first 5K the year before and had a lot of fun doing it. At that point, I thought, “Maybe I can actually do this.” The pure excitement of learning that I can be a runner was amazing! During the race, I made so many mistakes that I would later learn how to correct. Nutrition, training, pacing, etc. I still work on each of these but have learned how to plan ahead.

Favorite Grandma’s Marathon Memory: Grandma’s weekend has been a family tradition since before I was born. It’s impossible to pick a favorite memory because every year has its own special little moments. I’ve been able to experience Grandma’s weekend as a volunteer, spectator, runner, and even a mascot at the Whipper Snapper Race. Every “position” I’ve had during Grandma’s has been equally amazing and rewarding.
Song that must be on your running playlist: Anything by Knock2 or ISOxo! My current favorite is Crank the Base, Play the Muzic by Knock2.
Reason you absolutely won’t run outside: I despise winter running and tend to do most of my runs at an indoor track if there’s fresh snow or ice
Favorite pre-race meal: Fried rice and potbelly ham sandwich
Favorite post-race beverage: Always a crispy Coke, it tends to be the only thing on my mind for the last few miles of a marathon
2026 running goal: BQ (hopefully on the Grandma’s course) and stay injury free!
Advice to other runners: Go to a group shakeout run the weekend of Grandma’s! I went to my first one this past year and met some new friends who I ended up spotting at the marathon start line. It was a super fun way to meet new people and feel connected!
