ABOUT THE DULUTH COMMUNITY GARDEN PROGRAM
The Duluth Community Garden Program was created nearly fifty years ago to provide low-income and/or food insecure gardeners with a space to grow their own food in historically underserved neighborhoods. The payment model was set up so that gardeners with more financial resources would pay a higher price for their plot, so that lower income gardeners could pay-what-they-can, and still access plots. We also offer garden plots to local nonprofits, and indigenous gardeners at no cost.

We have 18 garden sites across the city with over 250 garden plots, some of which have been in use for many years (the oldest is a Victory garden from World War II). We provide infrastructure and assist with ongoing needs for every garden, coordinate community building events, and even educate around 600 students annually about the Vegetable of the Year!

Community gardens provide important greenspace, cut our carbon footprint, and help catch and filter rainwater before it reaches Lake Superior. They also bring neighbors together, put fresh vegetables on the table, all while building relationships that make a neighborhood feel like home.
