Race Weekend Tips – 2023 Grambassadors

As race weekend is approaching, it is time to start planning your weekend in Duluth! Our 2023 Grambassadors all know first-hand what Grandma’s Marathon weekend in Duluth has to offer, and they’re here to offer some tips and suggestions on how to make the most of your experience!

In Duluth, there is truly something for everyone on every single visit — outdoor adventure, arts and culture, historic sites, world-class attractions and entertainment, an exciting food and drink scene, and incredible events happening year-round.

When you come to Duluth, you understand what makes it so special. From the world-famous lift bridge to charming neighborhoods filled with local breweries and restaurants, Duluth is a true original along the pristine shores of Lake Superior. Part rugged, part refined and 100% one-of-a-kind.

You’ll get it when you get here.

FAVORITE PLACE TO EAT
Va Bene has delicious Italian food and is my favorite place to go on a warm summer evening. You’re right on the lake and it’s just a lovely atmosphere. Sir Ben’s is a fun, casual atmosphere with excellent sandwiches. Vikre distillery is a favorite spot to grab a cocktail, and no trip to Duluth is complete without a stop at Love Creamery for ice cream!

FAVORITE ACTIVITY
There are 9,168 acres of parkland and over 300 miles of trails. What is not to love? The Superior Hiking Trail goes through Duluth. So, when I go, I find time to head out on the trails.

FAVORITE PIECE OF ADVICE
Enjoy every moment! Once you hit London Road especially, the crowd support will get you to that finish line every step of the way!
~ Tanya Robertson

Plan on bringing a sweatshirt from Goodwill that you can discard at the start line. It was somewhat chilly at the start line while waiting for the race to begin.
~ Matthew Naugle

Take it all in! It’s an amazing weekend and just take the time to take it all in. The sights, the people, the race, the food, everything. Enjoy it all.
~ Sarah Packingham

Bring layers. When that wind switches, temperatures can change quickly — so be prepared! Take the time to explore the Duluth and surrounding areas. It’s a beautiful city with lots to do!
~ Angie Andresen

Enjoy the experience! Take in everything Duluth has to offer because it’s a lot!
~ Hannah Koch

Duluth and Two Harbors are amazing. Take full advantage of being on the north shore. Be sure to stop at Betty’s Pies. See the Split Rock Lighthouse. Head northeast toward Grand Marais. There is so much to see and do.
