Ruff Start Rescue
Ruff Start Rescue is a foster-based nonprofit companion animal rescue that radiates compassion and dedication. Our unwavering mission extends beyond borders, reaching communities throughout Minnesota and the southern states plagued by stray pet overpopulation. We fearlessly rescue the voiceless victims of neglect, abandonment, and despair—dogs, cats, ferrets, guinea pigs, rabbits, and many other critters. Our tireless efforts are propelled by volunteers, fosters, and supporters who unite as a force of unwavering love, saving thousands of lives.
Since its inception in 2010, Ruff Start has saved over 23,000 lives! Ruff Start Rescue exists because of the incredible generosity of our supporters. Donations support the care of animals in rescue by providing medical care and supplies they need. FUNDRAISING REQUIREMENTS
Ruff Start Rescue runners commit to fundraising a minimum amount prior to race weekend, as outlined below:
- Grandma’s Marathon — $500
- Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon — $500
The fundraising goal must be reached before the runner may register for the race. If the minimum fundraising amount is not met, the remaining balance will be charged to the runner.

In addition to a 2024 entry to the Grandma’s Marathon weekend race of their choice, all Ruff Start Rescue charity runners will also receive:
- Friday Night Meet Up Space at the DECC
- Bleacher Passes (2 per runner)
- Fundraising resources and support, including a personal fundraising page, to help you meet your fundraising goal
