As a lifelong Minnesotan I’ve been to Duluth many times. There are so many things to see and do that there are many that I have never experienced. Particularly during Grandma’s Marathon weekend I find myself falling into the same routines and visiting the same places. While I love these favorite places (PortLand Malt Shoppe, Fitger’s Brewhouse Brewery & Grille, and shopping at the Antique Mall in Canal Park) and will probably visit them this year, I am going to go outside of my comfort zone and try a few new things this Grandma’s weekend.
Museums:
There are quite a few museums in Duluth. As someone who frequents museums on trips and at home, I’m surprised I haven’t been to any in Duluth. This year I’m going to visit the Duluth Art Institute. They currently have their annual member show “We Hold These Truths” on display and I am excited to check it out.
Shopping:
Usually I find myself limited to the areas around Canal Park for my shopping during Grandma’s weekend. Last year I visited the Lincoln Park area for the first time when I went to Back Alley Surf and Coffee. I didn’t realize until then how much shopping and dining was in this area and I am excited to go back and explore.
Dining:
While I love the dining options I’m accustomed to on Superior St., I think I’ll stick to the Lincoln Park area for some new dining. My sister used to take day trips to Duluth solely to eat at the Duluth Grill, so I plan to check that out among other restaurants that look equally delicious.
It’s not hard to break out of routines and try new things in Duluth. I could write a list of places I haven’t tried year after year and not run out of places and things to do.
